Iraq Begins Exhuming Victims from Massive ISIS Mass Grave in Mosul

Iraqi authorities have begun exhuming remains from the “Khasfa” mass grave near Mosul, believed to contain thousands of victims executed by the Islamic State group during its control of the region.
Ahmed al-Asadi, head of Iraq’s mass grave excavation teams, told AFP that the first phase, launched on August 10, focuses on collecting evidence and bone fragments from the surface around the geological pit.
The Khasfa site is considered one of the most horrific mass graves left behind by ISIS, thought to hold the remains of civilians and security personnel killed between 2014 and 2017.
