Israeli Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich confirmed on Monday that 24 buildings were completely destroyed and at least 2,775 civilians were evacuated following Iranian missile and drone strikes carried out early Friday, in retaliation for Israeli air raids on Iranian targets.
In remarks reported by the Hebrew daily Haaretz, Smotrich said that Israel’s Property Tax Authority had received over 14,000 compensation claims related to direct damage caused by the attacks.
The minister stated that “24 structures sustained such severe damage that they have been declared irreparable and will be demolished.”
The admission marks one of the rare public acknowledgements by a senior Israeli official of the scale of Iran’s response, which Israeli media have described as the most intense strike against Israel in decades. According to the Israeli Government Press Office, the assault killed 24 people and injured at least 592 others.
