Israel’s Defense Minister Israel Katz said on Saturday that Israel had launched a “preemptive strike” against Iran to remove what he described as threats directed at the country, declaring a special state of emergency nationwide.

In a statement, Katz said Israel expected a retaliatory response from Iran in the near future, including missile and drone attacks.

Israel’s Channel 12 reported that the special state of emergency had been implemented across the country.

There was no immediate comment from Iran on the reported strike, and it was not yet clear what targets were hit or the extent of any damage.
