Israel announced on Tuesday evening that the International Committee of the Red Cross had transferred the remains of one of its captives from Gaza.
In a statement posted on the Israeli army’s account on the platform X, the military said: “According to information received from the Red Cross, a coffin containing the remains of one of the abductees has been handed over and is now en route to an IDF unit inside Gaza.”
The announcement followed statements by the Al-Qassam Brigades and the Al-Quds Brigades saying they intended to hand over the remains of an Israeli captive after locating them in central Gaza.
With this transfer, Palestinian factions have delivered since the start of the first phase of the ceasefire agreement on October 10 a total of 20 living Israeli captives and the remains of 28 others—representing all the bodies they say they hold.
Israel, however, has disputed some of the handovers, claiming that one of the bodies received did not belong to any of its captives, and that other remains were not new but belonged to a captive whose body had previously been recovered.
