Israeli soldiers boarded several vessels from the “Freedom Flotilla” heading to the Gaza Strip on Wednesday, arresting activists on board, Israel’s public broadcaster reported.
The flotilla organizers said in a statement that their ships had been subjected to an “illegal interception and camera disruptions,” confirming that Israeli military personnel had boarded the vessels.
Earlier, the Israeli navy had ordered the flotilla to divert its course to Ashdod port.
The flotilla, consisting of more than 40 civilian boats carrying around 500 people — including parliamentarians, lawyers, and activists such as Swedish climate activist Greta Thunberg — is the latest attempt to break the blockade on Gaza and deliver food and medicine to the enclave.
