Israeli media reported that the United States has significantly increased its military presence and readiness in and around Israel in what was described as an “unprecedented” buildup amid rising tensions with Iran.
Israel’s public broadcaster said on Thursday that four U.S. KC-46A Pegasus aerial refueling aircraft had arrived at Ben Gurion Airport near Tel Aviv as part of a broader U.S. military deployment in the Middle East.
It added that four KC-135 Stratotanker refueling aircraft were already stationed at the airport, bringing the total number of U.S. refueling planes there to eight.
Earlier on Thursday, The Times of Israel reported that six additional U.S. refueling aircraft were expected to head to Ben Gurion Airport.
The buildup comes amid growing speculation about a potential military strike on Iran aimed at pressuring Tehran over its nuclear program. The U.S. Defense Department did not immediately comment on the reports.
