Israeli opposition leader Yair Golan, head of the Democrats Party, warned on Monday that Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s government may be moving toward a ground invasion of Lebanon, saying it could trap the Israeli army in a “Lebanon quagmire and another endless war.”
Golan, a former deputy chief of staff of the Israeli military and former commander of the Northern Command responsible for the Lebanese front, made the remarks in a post on the social media platform X.
“I know Lebanon very well. I served as a brigadier in the Northern Command and spent most of my military service there as a soldier and a commander. I was wounded there,” Golan wrote.
He added: “I say this clearly: the political option must be fully exhausted before sending army divisions into the Lebanon quagmire.”
“We must not allow this government to lead us into another endless war,” he said.
