An Istanbul high criminal court accepted an indictment targeting detained Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu, seeking up to 2352 years in prison.

The 402-defendant case — 105 of them in custody — includes charges of forming a criminal organization, bribery, money laundering, and fraud.

The case adds to mounting political tension between the government and opposition ahead of local elections.
