Italians began voting on Sunday in a referendum aimed at simplifying the process of obtaining citizenship and enhancing workers’ rights, amidst government opposition and calls for a boycott.
Supporters of the amendment, led by civil organizations, hope that voter turnout will reach 50% +1 to validate the results.
Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni opposes the amendments, arguing that the current system is sufficient.
At the same time, the vote serves as a test for the future of national identity and social policies in the country.
