Japan’s parliament will elect a new prime minister on October 21 to succeed Shigeru Ishiba, local media reported on Friday.
According to Yomiuri Shimbun, the ruling Liberal Democratic Party and the main opposition Constitutional Democratic Party reached an agreement to hold the vote during a special parliamentary session on that date.
The election follows Ishiba’s resignation, paving the way for a new leader to take the helm of Japan’s government.
