Jordan said on Friday that Israel’s decision to strip the Palestinian municipality of Hebron of its planning and construction authority at the Ibrahimi Mosque and transfer it to an Israeli committee constitutes a flagrant violation of international law.
The statement was issued by Jordan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs in response to the approval by the Israeli Civil Administration’s Subcommittee for Planning and Licensing of a project to roof the courtyard of the Ibrahimi Mosque and revoke Hebron municipality’s authority over the site.
The ministry reaffirmed Jordan’s rejection and condemnation of what it described as Israel’s unilateral and illegal measures in the occupied West Bank, stressing that the decision violates the historical and legal status quo at the Ibrahimi Mosque.
