Kamil Al-Tayeb Idris was sworn in as Sudan’s new Prime Minister on Saturday, taking the constitutional oath before the Chairman of the Sovereignty Council, General Abdel Fattah Al-Burhan. The ceremony was attended by the Council’s Secretary-General, Mohamed Al-Ghali, and the head of the judiciary in the Red Sea State, representing the Chief Justice.
In his remarks following the swearing-in, Idris pledged to strengthen and safeguard democratic governance in Sudan. According to a statement by the Sovereignty Council’s media office, Idris also vowed to dedicate his efforts to improving the living conditions of Sudanese citizens.
The meeting between Al-Burhan and the newly appointed Prime Minister also addressed the country’s ongoing political, economic, and security developments.
Idris arrived in the interim administrative capital, Port Sudan, last Thursday. His appointment has been welcomed by international and regional bodies, including the United Nations, the African Union Commission, and the Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD).
