A new construction disaster struck the Kenyan capital, Nairobi, after a multi-storey building collapsed in the South C area, trapping an unknown number of people under the rubble.
The Kenya Red Cross confirmed that multi-agency emergency response teams have begun rescue operations at the site. Local media reported that the building was approximately 16 storeys high.
Authorities have yet to announce the cause of the collapse or the number of casualties, amid a recurring history of similar incidents linked to neglect of safety standards and weak urban oversight.
