North Korean leader Kim Jong Un oversaw the testing of an advanced naval destroyer this week, including the launch of a sea-to-land cruise missile, according to state media reports on Thursday.
The tests came shortly after Kim chaired the ruling Workers’ Party congress, held once every five years, where he renewed his country’s military mobilization goals and vowed to respond strongly to any threats.
The developments also come amid rising regional tensions following a joint attack by the United States and Israel against Iran aimed at dismantling its nuclear and missile programs as well as its naval capabilities.
