Kim Jong Un Pledges Ongoing Support for Russia in Message to Putin

North Korean leader Kim Jong Un said his country will continue to support Russia “at all times,” according to state media, in a message sent to President Vladimir Putin.

The message was delivered as Kim expressed gratitude for Putin’s congratulations on his reappointment as President of State Affairs, reaffirming strong ties between the two nations.

Kim said North Korea and Russia are working closely to defend their sovereignty, adding: “Pyongyang will always stand by Moscow. This is our choice and our unwavering will.”

The remarks come as relations between the two countries have deepened since the start of the war in Ukraine in 2022, with intelligence reports indicating that Pyongyang has sent thousands of troops to support Russia.

South Korean estimates suggest around 600 North Korean soldiers have been killed and thousands wounded, while analysts say North Korea is receiving financial aid, military technology, and food and energy supplies in return.
