Lebanese Activist George Abdallah Returns to Beirut After 41 Years in French Prison

Lebanese activist George Abdallah arrived in Beirut on Friday following his release from a French prison, where he spent 41 years over charges linked to the assassinations of an Israeli and an American diplomat, as well as weapons possession.

According to Lebanon’s state-run National News Agency, the 74-year-old pro-Palestinian activist landed at Rafik Hariri International Airport aboard an Air France flight.

Abdallah was arrested by French authorities in 1984, accused of involvement in the 1982 killings of Israeli diplomat Yacov Barsimantov and U.S. military attaché Charles Ray in Paris. He also faced charges related to document forgery and illegal arms possession.

Despite multiple parole requests approved by courts over the years, Abdallah remained imprisoned amid political pressure and delays in deportation procedures.
