Lebanese President Joseph Aoun announced on Monday the formation of a joint Lebanese-Palestinian committee tasked with addressing the issue of arms within Palestinian camps in Lebanon.

This move aims to strengthen the authority of the Lebanese state and assert its sovereignty over its entire territory.

The Lebanese president clarified that the committee will begin its work in mid-June, starting with three Palestinian camps whose names have not yet been disclosed.

This development follows Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas’s visit to Beirut, where both Lebanese and Palestinian sides agreed on the necessity of organizing the security situation within the camps to ensure that arms are held exclusively by the Lebanese state.
