Local activists in Sweida launched a petition campaign on Monday under the slogan “Our Right to Self-Determination.”
The “High Legal Committee,” linked to the spiritual leader of the Druze community, Sheikh Hikmat al-Hijri, announced its rejection of the Syrian Foreign Ministry’s statement on the “roadmap” for resolving the crisis, describing the events of last July as “crimes against humanity.”
The statement accused the government of attempting to appear neutral despite its direct responsibility for violations and denounced the Syrian judiciary as “politicized.”
The committee called for an independent international investigation and affirmed the right of Sweida residents to determine their own future through “self-administration or secession,” urging the international community to support this path.
