The Libyan vessel “Omar Al-Mukhtar” is scheduled to sail Wednesday into national waters to join the Global Freedom Flotilla, aiming to break the Israeli blockade on the Gaza Strip.
Originally planned for Tuesday, which marks Libya’s “Martyr’s Day” commemorating the 1931 death of national hero Omar Al-Mukhtar after a 20-year struggle against Italian occupation, the departure was delayed due to logistical arrangements, according to Anadolu Agency correspondents.
The ship carries former Libyan Prime Minister Omar Al-Hassi alongside a group of Libyan and international activists.
Meanwhile, the Libyan vessel “Mawal Libya” has departed from Tunisian shores, heading directly to join the international flotilla without docking at Libyan ports.
On Tuesday evening, the International Committee for Breaking the Israeli Blockade on Gaza announced that the flotilla’s vessels will rendezvous near Malta before sailing together toward the Gaza coast, with the exact departure time yet to be confirmed.
