French President Emmanuel Macron announced on Friday that he will formally recognize the State of Palestine next Monday, a move he said he conveyed directly to Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas during a phone call.
In a post on the social media platform X, Macron said the two leaders discussed the urgent humanitarian situation in the Palestinian territories, including Gaza. He emphasized that the recognition will be part of a broader French initiative aimed at advancing peace efforts.
Macron added that the announcement will be made while he is in New York for the United Nations General Assembly.
