A magnitude 6.1 earthquake struck off the eastern coast of Japan’s northern island of Hokkaido on Saturday, according to the United States Geological Survey (USGS). No injuries or damage have been reported, and no tsunami warning was issued.
The quake occurred at 5:37 p.m. local time (08:37 GMT) near the city of Kushiro, with the epicenter located about 20 kilometers beneath the Earth’s surface.
Japanese authorities confirmed that the tremor did not trigger any significant disruptions, and monitoring continues to ensure public safety.
