In a surprise move, Mali’s government announced the closure of its land border with Mauritania.
It suspended cross-border pastoral migration, accusing Nouakchott of failing to curb the activity of armed groups.
The decision comes amid the growing influence of the al-Qaeda–linked group Jama’at Nusrat al-Islam wal-Muslimin, which controls key transport routes across northern Mali.
Authorities also suspended all educational activities until November 9 due to fuel shortages and worsening economic conditions, further aggravating the country’s humanitarian crisis.
