Tens of thousands protested in the Philippine capital, Manila, on Sunday against a massive corruption scandal involving fake flood-control projects that cost the state billions of dollars.

Clashes erupted between demonstrators and police, while the army was placed on high alert.

President Ferdinand Marcos had revealed in July irregularities in more than 9,000 infrastructure projects linked to flood management.
