Mass shooting at South African hotel leaves 11 dead, 25 wounded


South African police announced that armed men stormed a hotel in the capital, Pretoria, on Saturday, December 6, 2025, opening fire and killing 11 people, including a 3-year-old child.

The attack is the latest in a series of mass shootings in the crime-stricken country, which has a population of 63 million.

Police spokesperson Athlenda Mathe said, “I can confirm that 25 people were shot,” adding that 14 of them were taken to hospital.

She explained that ten victims died at the scene in the township of Saulsville, located 18 kilometers west of Pretoria, while another person died in hospital.

According to authorities, three gunmen entered the building at around 02:30 a.m. GMT and opened fire randomly on a group of men gathered in the hotel bar.
