A massive wildfire broke out in Castro Daire, central Portugal, described as the largest of the year.

More than 450 firefighters, supported by 120 vehicles and nine aircraft, battled the flames.

The Civil Protection Authority stated that the blaze posed the greatest current threat, amid concerns that it could spread to residential areas.

The disaster revives concerns over Portugal’s recurring wildfire crises as climate change worsens.
