Firefighters and residents joined forces to combat fast-spreading wildfires in the suburbs of Patras, western Greece, leading to evacuations and the destruction of homes and facilities.

Seven major fires erupted, mostly in the west, while strong winds hampered firefighting efforts in Zakynthos and Kefalonia amid plans to evacuate tourist areas.

Fires were also reported on Chios Island and other locations.
