Mauritania’s presidency announced a major cabinet reshuffle late Thursday into Friday, dismissing six ministers including the justice minister, who was reassigned as a presidential adviser.
According to the presidential decree, the ministers of agriculture and food sovereignty, livestock, health, housing and urban planning, and Islamic affairs also left the government.
The reshuffle saw the return of former foreign minister Naha Mint Hamdi Ould Meknas to government after more than a year’s absence, now taking over the housing and urban planning portfolio. Veteran politician Abdallah Ould Sidiya also rejoined the cabinet as minister of economic affairs and development.
The shake-up further included a rotation of portfolios among several sitting ministers, as President Mohamed Ould Cheikh El Ghazouani seeks to recalibrate his administration.
