Moldovan President Says Election Win Provides Strong Mandate for EU Membership

Moldovan President Maia Sandu said on Monday that her pro-European Union party’s victory in last weekend’s parliamentary elections constitutes a “strong mandate” for the country’s EU accession process.

Speaking at a press conference, Sandu added, “Yesterday’s vote sends a clear message that we are brave and will not be intimidated,” referring to allegations of possible Russian interference in the elections, according to AFP.

Preliminary results from Moldova’s parliamentary elections on Monday indicate that the ruling pro-European Union party won more than half of the total votes cast.
