Monsoon Rains Kill 54 in Pakistan in 24 Hours, Death Toll Rises to 180

At least 54 people were killed and 227 others injured in the past 24 hours due to heavy monsoon rains across Pakistan, the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) announced on Thursday.

A spokesperson for the NDMA stated that “most of the fatalities occurred in Punjab province,” adding that the figures are current as of 8:00 a.m. local time. The new deaths bring the total number of casualties since the beginning of the monsoon season in late June to 180, according to Agence France-Presse (AFP).

Pakistan experiences seasonal monsoon rains from June to September each year, often resulting in deadly floods and significant damage, particularly in rural areas with weak infrastructure and limited emergency response capabilities.

Rescue teams and emergency services are currently working to evacuate affected residents and deliver humanitarian aid to the hardest-hit areas. Authorities have also issued warnings of continued rainfall in the coming days.
