More than 30 people were killed on Sunday in an attack carried out by gunmen on the Kasuwan-Daji market in the Dimo area of Niger State, northern Nigeria, according to local media.

Dozens were wounded, and several civilians were abducted, while the attackers looted large quantities of food supplies before fleeing.

The attack comes amid a surge in violence by armed gangs and extremist groups such as Boko Haram and ISIS, alongside the spread of ransom kidnappings despite tougher penalties.
