Morocco announced on Sunday that it will allocate 140 billion dirhams (approximately $14 billion) to the education and health sectors in its 2026 national budget, along with the creation of more than 27,000 new jobs in both areas.
The announcement came in a royal palace statement following a ministerial meeting chaired by King Mohammed VI in Rabat to outline the main priorities of the upcoming budget.
The move coincides with demonstrations organized by the “Gen Z 212” movement, which has been calling for reforms in education and healthcare and for stronger anti-corruption measures. The government reiterated its willingness to engage in dialogue with the protesters.
The movement staged protests between September 27 and October 9, demanding broad social and economic reforms, before pausing temporarily and announcing plans to resume weekly demonstrations every Saturday.
