Moroccan authorities have launched an investigation into the collapse of two buildings in the city of Fez, which resulted in 19 fatalities and 16 injuries amid widespread infrastructure fragility.

The buildings housed eight families, and the neighborhood was evacuated as rescue teams searched for missing persons.

Fez suffers from aging infrastructure and recurring fears of similar collapses, fueled by inconsistent enforcement of safety regulations.
