The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has officially announced Morocco as the host for the African playoff tournament of the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers, scheduled for November.
The playoff will feature four teams that finished second in their respective groups across the nine African qualifying groups. The winner will advance to the intercontinental playoff, securing a final chance to qualify for the World Cup.
CAF explained that the playoff format will include semifinals and a final: the first-ranked team among the four will face the fourth, while the second plays the third. The two semifinal winners will then meet in the final to determine Africa’s representative in the intercontinental playoff, set for March 2026.
