Youth-led protests in Morocco demanding better education and healthcare intensified on Tuesday evening, with several cities witnessing violent clashes between demonstrators and security forces. The unrest marked the fourth consecutive day of demonstrations.
In a statement released on Tuesday, the governing coalition expressed its readiness to open dialogue channels with the youth “within institutions and public spaces, and to find realistic and implementable solutions in the interest of the nation and its citizens.”
The protests have been driven by a youth-led movement calling itself “Gen Z 212”, which has mobilized supporters through social media platforms such as TikTok, Instagram, and the gaming app Discord.
According to local media and eyewitnesses, hundreds of young protesters hurled stones at police officers attempting to disperse crowds in the southern cities of Tiznit, Inezgane, and Ait Amira, as well as in Oujda in the east and Temara near the capital, Rabat.
