Morocco’s King Renews Call for “Frank and Responsible Dialogue” with Algeria

Morocco’s King Mohammed VI on Tuesday extended a fresh call for “a frank and responsible dialogue” with Algeria, aiming to resolve longstanding disputes between the two North African neighbors.

In a speech marking the 25th anniversary of his accession to the throne, the Moroccan monarch emphasized his country’s commitment to fostering good relations with the Algerian people.

“We remain committed to maintaining fraternal relations with the Algerian people and reiterate our readiness to find a consensual solution to the Sahara issue that preserves the dignity of all parties,” King Mohammed VI said.

Morocco and Algeria have experienced decades of political tension, particularly over the Western Sahara conflict. Diplomatic ties were officially severed by Algeria in 2021, citing “hostile acts” by Rabat — accusations Morocco has denied.
