The government of Nepal has announced it will block access to major social media platforms, including Facebook and X (formerly Twitter), after the companies failed to comply with official registration requirements imposed by the authorities.

The government stated that the move, announced on Thursday, is part of its efforts to combat hate speech, misinformation, and cybercrime prevalent online.
