Nepal PM Resigns After Deadly Anti-Corruption Protests

Nepalese Prime Minister K.P. Sharma Oli resigned on Tuesday following violent anti-corruption protests, his aide Prakash Silwal announced, according to Reuters.

The resignation came just hours after the government reversed its controversial decision to ban social media platforms, which had triggered nationwide unrest. At least 19 people were killed in clashes as demonstrators demanded both the lifting of the ban and stronger action against corruption.

Authorities have pledged to launch a national dialogue in a bid to restore calm after days of turmoil.
