Netherlands Nears Minority Government After Months of Deadlock

Three major Dutch parties — Democrats’ 66, the People’s Party for Freedom and Democracy, and the Christian Democratic Appeal — announced a preliminary deal to form a minority government after months of difficult talks.

The agreement follows an election that produced a fragmented parliament and made it nearly impossible to form a stable coalition.

Party leaders said they would cooperate to break the political stalemate and avoid snap elections, as discussions continue over cabinet posts and a shared governing agenda.
