Nigeria’s new army chief, Waidi Shaibu, vowed to ramp up military operations against extremist groups in the northeast following US President Donald Trump’s warning of possible military action if violence against Christians continued.

During a field visit to Borno State, Shaibu said the army “will continue the fight until full stability is restored,” as Washington accuses Abuja of violating religious freedoms.
