Nobel Prize in Physics 2025 Honors Quantum Mechanics Pioneers

The Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences awarded the 2025 Nobel Prize in Physics to John Clarke, Michel Devoret, and John Martinis for their discovery of macroscopic quantum tunneling and the measurement of energy levels in electrical circuits.

The committee stated that their work “forms the foundation of the modern digital revolution and enables the development of quantum computers.”

The laureates will receive their prizes at the official ceremony in Stockholm in December.
