Outgoing Norwegian Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre, leader of the Labour Party, declared victory in Monday’s parliamentary elections, after his party emerged top with about 28% of the vote.
“We succeeded,” the 65-year-old leader told supporters, adding that the result allows him to remain in power through a coalition with other left-wing parties.
Despite the left’s lead, the anti-immigration populist right achieved a historic result, marking a significant shift in Norway’s political landscape, according to AFP.
