More than 40 people went missing in Sokoto State, northwestern Nigeria, after a boat capsized, while around 10 were rescued, according to the National Emergency Agency.
Boat accidents are common in the country during the rainy season, which typically runs from March to October.
In August 2024, 16 farmers died in a similar accident in Sokoto when a wooden canoe overturned while they were crossing the river to rice fields.
