The annual Pacific Islands Forum summit kicked off in the Solomon Islands with the participation of 18 countries, including Australia and New Zealand, to discuss climate issues and regional security amid intensifying rivalry between the United States and China.

This year’s summit is being held without donor partners, following disagreements over Taiwan’s participation.
