Pentagon Preparing for Limited Ground Operations Inside Iran, Report Says

The Washington Post reported, citing US officials, that the Pentagon is preparing for ground operations inside Iran that could last for weeks, as Washington increases its military presence in the Middle East.

Officials, speaking on condition of anonymity, said the operations would not involve a full-scale invasion, but rather limited raids carried out by special operations forces and infantry units.

The report noted that such missions could expose US troops to significant risks, including Iranian missiles, aircraft, ground fire, and improvised explosive devices.

It remains unclear whether President Donald Trump will approve all, part, or none of the Pentagon’s plans.

According to the report, discussions within the administration have included scenarios such as seizing Kharg Island, Iran’s main oil export hub, and conducting strikes on coastal areas near the Strait of Hormuz to target weapons capable of threatening commercial and military vessels.
