Peru lawmakers vote to oust president Dina Boluarte

Peru’s parliament on Friday voted to remove President Dina Boluarte from office after she refused to appear before a congressional hearing. A decisive 118 of 122 lawmakers supported her ouster.

Boluarte has faced mounting criticism since taking office in December 2022, amid accusations of failing to curb rising crime and widespread protests across the country.

The speaker of the unicameral parliament, dominated by right-wing and far-right parties, will assume the presidency temporarily until general elections scheduled for April 2026.
