The Philippine military accused Chinese forces of causing a collision between two Chinese navy and coast guard vessels while pushing away Philippine coast guard ships and fishermen from the Scarborough Shoal.

Manila confirmed it is assessing an appropriate response, while the United States condemned what it called Beijing’s “reckless action” against a Philippine vessel.
