Washington witnessed protests against the White House’s decision to deploy National Guard units and federal security agencies to patrol the capital’s streets around the clock.
Demonstrators carried banners calling for an end to the security presence, while law enforcement set up vehicle checkpoints.
The decision followed President Donald Trump’s announcement that his administration would oversee the city’s police department for at least a month, citing crime levels, despite data showing they have fallen to a 30-year low.
