Protests Resurge in Indonesia Over Financial Perks and Economic Struggles

Thousands of demonstrators returned to the streets of multiple Indonesian cities on Monday, protesting against financial privileges granted to officials—particularly housing allowances for parliament members—amid growing economic difficulties, according to Agence France-Presse.

In the capital, Jakarta, security and military forces were heavily deployed, with the army stationed in front of the parliament building, where more than 300 protesters had gathered, AFP reporters said.

The renewed demonstrations follow last week’s violent unrest, which left six dead and prompted President Prabowo Subianto to adopt stricter measures before announcing the partial cancellation of the controversial financial perks that sparked public outrage.
