Putin and Sudani Agree to Postpone Russia–Arab Summit Amid Gaza Developments

Russian President Vladimir Putin and Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed Shia al-Sudani agreed on Thursday to postpone the Russia–Arab Summit, which had been scheduled for October 15, according to a statement from the Kremlin.

The Kremlin said the decision came “as the active phase of U.S. President Donald Trump’s plan to halt the war in Gaza gets underway.” It added that Putin and al-Sudani—whose country currently holds the rotating presidency of the Arab League—agreed that “it would be difficult for many invited Arab leaders to personally attend the summit in Moscow under the current circumstances.”

The summit had been expected to address a wide range of regional and international issues of mutual concern, including cooperation in the fields of economy, trade, investment, security, and energy.

Earlier, Yuri Ushakov, a senior foreign policy aide to President Putin, said Moscow had invited leaders of all 22 Arab League member states to participate in the first Russia–Arab Summit. He noted that the final list of attendees had been expected to be announced between October 13 and 14.
