British official documents revealed a radioactive water leak into Loch Long Bay in western Scotland from the Culport military base, which houses naval nuclear weapons.
The Scottish Environmental Protection Agency reported that the Royal Navy failed to maintain 1,500 water pipes, causing ruptures and leaks of tritium, a radioactive substance used in nuclear warheads.
The documents stated that half of the base’s components have exceeded their lifespan and described the plans to replace the pipes as “suboptimal.”
